Feet of Snow Pile Up in California’s Sierra Nevada, ‘More on the Way’

Blizzard conditions in the Sierra region of California dumped as much as 24 inches of snow in parts of the state from February 27 to 28, with more in the forecast, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported. Video posted by the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab (CSSL) shows conditions on Tuesday morning. The lab reported “a very light and fluffy” 36 in (91.5 cm) of new snow over the previous 24 hours, bringing the 2-day total to 52.2 in (132.5 cm). A total of 109.3 in (277.5 cm) of snow fell over the past 7 days. “Plenty more on the way!” the lab wrote on Twitter. The NWS warned that blizzard conditions in the Sierra would cause “extreme travel impacts,” reporting several feet of snow in the forecast for areas above 2,000-3,000 feet, with snowfall rates potentially higher than 3 inches an hour. “Mountain travel is HIGHLY discouraged!” the NWS said. Rescue efforts have been ongoing since this morning, the service said. Footage shared by Vigili del Fuoco shows emergency services present at the beach and wading into the choppy waves. Train Car Filmed Glowing 20 Miles From Derailment Site in Ohio

Security footage showing a glow from the underside of train car about 20 miles before the site of a derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, has raised further questions over the details of the incident. The footage of the fiery axle was captured by a camera at Butech Bliss, an industrial equipment supplier in Salem, Ohio, as it traveled east past the business. A representative for Butech Bliss said the video was captured at 8.12 pm on February 3, about 43 minutes before a Norfolk Southern train went off the tracks in East Palestine, further down the line, at 8.55 pm. Early reports said the derailment caused a large fire that prompted authorities to order evacuations and carry out a controlled release of toxic chemicals that were being transported. However, the footage from Butech Bliss indicates that a fire may have broken out on the train prior to the derailment. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which published this footage on February 10, investigators at The National Transporta
