Blizzard conditions in the Sierra region of California dumped as much as 24 inches of snow in parts of the state from February 27 to 28, with more in the forecast, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported. Video posted by the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab (CSSL) shows conditions on Tuesday morning. The lab reported “a very light and fluffy” 36 in (91.5 cm) of new snow over the previous 24 hours, bringing the 2-day total to 52.2 in (132.5 cm). A total of 109.3 in (277.5 cm) of snow fell over the past 7 days. “Plenty more on the way!” the lab wrote on Twitter. The NWS warned that blizzard conditions in the Sierra would cause “extreme travel impacts,” reporting several feet of snow in the forecast for areas above 2,000-3,000 feet, with snowfall rates potentially higher than 3 inches an hour. “Mountain travel is HIGHLY discouraged!” the NWS said.
