‘Very disappointing’ the French sub deal wasn’t handled more ‘astutely’

Labor MP Meryl Swanson says it is “very, very disappointing” the French submarine deal wasn’t handled more “astutely” by the Morrison government. US President Joe Biden told French President Emmanuel Macron the deal was dealt with in a “clumsy” manner in a meeting in Rome before the G20 summit this weekend. “I think that what the President of the United States has said is actually really very kind in describing it as clumsy,” Ms Swanson said. from Breaking National News and Australian News | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/2Y0IrrB

President Biden ‘made a mistake’ with Afghanistan withdrawal

The US government “made a mistake” in their handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, says Chairman of the UK Foreign Affairs Committee. “I think the new US administration probably arrived in the White House and realised the various challenges they had were more severe than they imagined,” Mr Tugendhat said. “Challenges like; the technological gap that’s shrinking between them and China, the different ways in which other powers … mostly China, are challenging US interests and US allied interests … and they decided to focus on it. “I think, in this case, the US government made a mistake and I think it was very much down to the president.” from Breaking National News and Australian News | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/31nvXMh

GOP’s Adam Kinzinger, Outspoken Trump Critic, Says He Won’t Seek Re-Election to Congress

Congressman Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois’ 16th District known for his outspoken criticism of former President Donald Trump, announced in a video on Friday, October 29, that he would not be seeking re-election to the House in 2022. Kinzinger, formerly a lieutenant colonel in the US Air Force, cited tribalism, extremism, and the polarized nature of the American political system as factors in his decision, though he did not mention any political party or politician by name in the near-5-minute message. “Our political parties only survive by appealing to the most motivated and the most extreme elements within it,” Kinzinger says in the video, "and the price tag to power has skyrocketed, and fear and distrust has served as an effective strategy to meet that cost. “Dehumanizing each other has become the norm,” Kinzinger continues. "We’ve taken it from social media to the streets. We’ve allowed leaders to reach power selling the false premise that strength comes from d...

Queen Elizabeth has ‘had to slow down’ amid pandemic

Royal commentator Neil Sean says Queen Elizabeth has “had to slow down” amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Queen Elizabeth will not be attending the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow after she was advised to rest by doctors. “The bigger problem looking at COP26 is this: you’re going to have a condensed area of people, and you’re expecting this 95-year-old lady, who is the star attraction to wade through all these people,” Mr Sean told Sky News host Paul Murray. “It just didn’t make sense to me.” from Breaking National News and Australian News | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/3vOaDKX

‘Go slow’ Palaszczuk government has ‘lazy ministers’: LNP MP

LNP MP Jarrod Bleijie says the “go slow” government in Queensland has “lazy ministers”. “For two years they’ve been talking all COVID, we’ve seen less parliamentary sittings,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray. “I just think it’s because we’ve got lazy ministers. “We’ve got ministers that are so lazy that they are enjoying the fact that there is no microscope on them because obviously with COVID … the microscope’s been taken off these ministers. “But as soon as we are out of this pandemic, I can assure these ministers, these incompetent ministers, that we’re going to show the public of Queensland who they are and what they haven’t been doing for two years.” from Breaking National News and Australian News | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/3jE5PD6
