Ring of Light Encircles Moon as ‘Lunar Halo’ Shines Over Bucks County

A ring of light was seen encircling the moon over Perkasie, Pennsylvania, on Friday, November 24, in an atmospherical phenomenon known as a moon, or lunar, halo. Footage filmed by Storyful journalist Dakota Flournoy shows the halo late on Friday night. According to Space.com, the ring of light is caused by moonlight (sunlight that is reflected off the moon) refracted through ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The phenomenon is the subject of folklore, the Farmer’s Almanac said, as an indicator of impending bad weather in winter months. Local news reports said the moon halo was also visible in parts of West Virginia and North Carolina. Credit: Dakota Flournoy via Storyful
