Provincial Chief Minister Visits Peshawar Mosque Site as Death Toll Rises to 100

Azam Khan, the caretaker Chief Minister of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, visited Peshawar, Pakistan, on Tuesday, January 31, after a deadly explosion at a mosque killed at least 100 people and injured dozens more. Footage posted to Twitter by the Information Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shows Khan touring the site of the attack and addressing a group of officers. Khan declared a day of mourning in the province for the victims of the attack and said he is ready to pay compensation to the families of the victims and the injured. Citing health officials, local news outlet Dawn reported that most of the injured were out of danger. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Ijaz Khan told Dawn that the mosque’s roof collapsed after the blast and that many people were stuck under the rubble.
