South Dakota Officials Work to Rescue People Stranded in ‘Life-Threatening’ Cold

Local officials urged people to stay off roadways in Pennington County, South Dakota, on Thursday, December 22, as emergency responders rescued people stranded on roadways as “extreme cold” created “a life-threatening situation.” The National Weather Service (NWS) reported “widespread blizzard conditions” on the plains of western South Dakota. Wind chill temperatures dropped as low as -65 degrees Fahrenheit, the NWS said.
