Huge Crowd Gathers in Argentine Capital to Welcome Home World Cup Champions

Jubilant fans packed the streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, as the World Cup–winning national soccer team started a victory tour of the capital on Tuesday, December 20. Footage captured by Leo Suarez shows crowds of people singing and dancing near the Obelisco monument in the city center on Tuesday. Local media reported that though the parade would not come down Avenue 9 de Julio and past the famous monument, fans had already packed into the space to celebrate their sporting heroes. Police Detain Person at Moscow Memorial for Navalny

Police in Moscow were seen detaining at least one person at the “Wall of Grief,” a monument to victims of political persecution, where a vigil to Alexei Navalny was set up on Saturday, February 17. Video filmed by Russian media outlet SOTA shows police detaining one person near the monument and carrying them away. Navalny was reported dead by Russian Russian authorities on Friday, February 16. Authorities said the 47-year-old dissident fell ill and died in the prison colony where he was detained. According to Meduza, more than 150 people have been arrested at protests and gatherings in memory of Navalny across Russia. International media reported several journalists were arrested in Moscow and St Petersburg after Navalny’s death was announced.
