President Joe Biden pardoned two turkeys on Monday, November 21, at the White House, a longstanding Thanksgiving tradition. The president introduced the two lucky turkeys, named Chocolate and Chip. Video livestreamed by the White House on Monday shows the “wonderful Thanksgiving tradition” in Washington. The president said, “based on their temperament and commitment to being productive members of society, I hereby pardon Chocolate and Chip.” Biden continued, “We can’t forget the reason for Thanksgiving in the first place,” saying, “the pilgrims thought it was pretty important in tough times to come together.” He highlighted scientists and health care workers who have contributed to the development of the Coronavirus vaccine, which made it possible to “safely have Thanksgiving with large family gatherings,” he said.
