Satellite Imagery Shows Damage Around Zaporizhzhia Power Plant Ahead of Official Inspection

Satellite imagery released by Maxar Technologies on Monday, August 29, shows damage to parts of Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Enerhodar, Ukraine, ahead of a scheduled inspection of the facility this week. Images from Maxar Technologies reveal recent damage to the roof of a building adjacent to several of the nuclear reactors and a group of armored personnel carriers positioned along a road near the reactors. Small fires were also seen outside of the main power plant facilities. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, inspectors were preparing to visit the location to “help ensure nuclear safety and security.” On Sunday, at least 10 people were reportedly injured by shrapnel following strikes in the area.
