Before and After Satellite Images Show Extensive Flood Damage in Pakistan

Satellite images released on Tuesday, August 30, shows extensive damage to regions in Pakistan after monsoon rainfall triggered deadly flooding across the region. The images, captured by Planet Labs PBC, show areas within Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces – the areas most affected by the flooding – between early August and August 28. According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), nearly 1,000 people have died since mid-June, including more than 300 children. On Tuesday, the agency warned of very high level flooding to continue along the Kabul River and “high to very high” flood levels for the River Indus over the next twenty-four hours. Police Detain Person at Moscow Memorial for Navalny

Police in Moscow were seen detaining at least one person at the “Wall of Grief,” a monument to victims of political persecution, where a vigil to Alexei Navalny was set up on Saturday, February 17. Video filmed by Russian media outlet SOTA shows police detaining one person near the monument and carrying them away. Navalny was reported dead by Russian Russian authorities on Friday, February 16. Authorities said the 47-year-old dissident fell ill and died in the prison colony where he was detained. According to Meduza, more than 150 people have been arrested at protests and gatherings in memory of Navalny across Russia. International media reported several journalists were arrested in Moscow and St Petersburg after Navalny’s death was announced.
