Fire Breaks Out Near Major Highway in Moscow

A fire near a highway south of Moscow resulted in lane closures and morning traffic disruptions on Wednesday, June 29, according to local news reports. The blaze, which spread to about 2,000 square meters and affected metal warehouses near Kashirskoye Highway, was started when garbage caught fire, according to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry. Russian state media reported that an unnamed source said the fire was arson, but Russian officials did not publicly confirm the claim. The fire was extinguished in two hours by 100 members of the Moscow fire and rescue brigade using 20 pieces of equipment, according to Russian officials. Two helicopters were also utilized to drop water almost two dozen times. This footage, released by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Affairs, shows firefighters working to contain the fire.
