US Senate Passes $40 Billion Ukraine Aid Bill

More than 80 US Senators voted on May 19 to pass a bill that would deliver $40 billion worth of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The HR 7691 bill was passed by the House of Representatives on May 10, but its passage through the Senate was delayed one week due to an objection by Republican Senator Rand Paul. Eleven “No” votes came from Republicans, splitting from their party leadership. Along with Paul, they included Marsha Blackburn, John Boozman, Mike Braun, Mike Crapo, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Mike Lee, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, and Tommy Tuberville, Fox News reported. All Democratic senators voted for the bill. According to Congress.gov, “the bill provides appropriations for defense equipment, migration and refugee assistance, regulatory and technical support regarding nuclear power issues, emergency food assistance, economic assistance, and seizures of property related to the invasion.” Credit: CSPAN via Storyful
