Civilians Work to Repair Heavily Damaged Kyiv Suburbs

Civilians in the suburbs west of Kyiv are cleaning up the damage caused by the Russian invasion as trenches and shells remain, footage from the region shows. Video recorded by Maria Avdeeva shows substantial damage to shops and residential buildings in the western Kyiv suburbs of Makariv and Borodyanka. Her footage also shows a backyard trench, which she wrote was Russian. Avdeeva wrote: “No matter how terrified people are, they say that victory belongs to Ukraine and are ready to work and rebuild what was destroyed.” Residents in Makariv and Borodyanka were previously seen receiving aid from Lviv Police after the towns were heavily damaged in Russian attacks. Police Detain Person at Moscow Memorial for Navalny

Police in Moscow were seen detaining at least one person at the “Wall of Grief,” a monument to victims of political persecution, where a vigil to Alexei Navalny was set up on Saturday, February 17. Video filmed by Russian media outlet SOTA shows police detaining one person near the monument and carrying them away. Navalny was reported dead by Russian Russian authorities on Friday, February 16. Authorities said the 47-year-old dissident fell ill and died in the prison colony where he was detained. According to Meduza, more than 150 people have been arrested at protests and gatherings in memory of Navalny across Russia. International media reported several journalists were arrested in Moscow and St Petersburg after Navalny’s death was announced.
