Two Million Illegal Cigarettes Destroyed by Latvian Authorities

Latvia’s State Security Agency said it shredded and incinerated 2,157,520 illegal cigarettes at a landfill in Riga on March 31. This video released by police on April 20 shows pulverized material being fired out of a shredder at the Getlini landfill in Riga’s eastern suburb of Rumbula. Latvian state police said the destroyed cigarettes were seized as part of 28 criminal investigations and had an estimated value of €200,000 (about USD$217,000) on the black market.
