Late-Season Storm ‘Dumps’ Snow in Northern California

A late-season snowstorm brought heavy snow to California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range on Thursday, April 21, making for dangerous travel in higher elevations, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. Staff at UC Berkeley’s Central Sierra Snow Lab, close to Donner Summit, reported 14.4 inches of fresh snow by 9 am Thursday, and said it was “still dumping” as they posted this video. The Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee, about 10 miles east of the snow lab, issued an avalanche warning for backcountry areas throughout the greater Tahoe area.
