Snow Covers Ground in Golan Heights as First Winter Snow Hits Israel

Snow covered the ground in the Golan Heights on January 20 as Israel experienced its “first snowfall of winter.” Footage shows a snow-covered road and forest near Odem in the Golan Heights on January 20. The region saw heavy snowfall between January 19 and 20. The snowfall sparked concerns that people might mistakenly enter uncleared landmine zones. The Israeli Defense Force warned people to stay alert to signs and markings. Lieutenant Colonel Ze’ev Cohen said: “If there is any doubt that you mistakenly entered a landmine zone – stand still, and call for help. The IDF will arrive at any location necessary in the area.” Schools in the region were also closed on Wednesday and Thursday as authorities worked on clearing the roads.
