Lava Spews From Spain’s Cumbre Vieja Volcano

The Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, continued to spew lava on Sunday, September 26, a week after it began erupting. This footage from Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) shows lava and ash coming from the volcano on Sunday morning. Local volcanology agency Involcan said that figures recorded by the Canary Islands Geodetic Network showed a decrease in pressure within the volcano’s magmatic system. Spanish airport operator Aena announced that La Palma’s airport was cleared to re-open on Sunday after volcanic ash was removed from the runway. Credit: IGN Spain via Storyful
