Man Rides Out Storm Ida on Barge in Grand Isle, Louisiana

Storm Ida bore down on Grand Isle, Louisiana, on August 29, with officials warning of more strong winds and life-threatening flooding on August 30. Video by Josh D Welch documents the conditions as he rode out the hurricane on a barge in Grand Isle. Rain pelts the vessel and a dock throughout August 29 and into the morning of August 30, when the storm was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm. The rain obscured the view out the windows of the barge on August 29, with Welch commenting alongside one video, “Can’t see the dock anymore.” The National Hurricane Center said on the morning of August 30 that heavy rain and damaging winds will continue throughout the day and into Tuesday morning, and warned of life-threatening flooding in parts of the southeast. At least one person was reported to have died in the storm in Louisiana. Credit: Josh D Welch via Storyful
