‘I No Longer Have a Home’: Louisiana Resident Assesses Hurricane Damage

Homeowners in southern Louisiana surveyed widespread damage after Hurricane Ida hit the region as a Category 4 storm on Sunday, August 29. Footage shows a home significantly damaged by the hurricane, which was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 mph when it made landfall, the National Hurricane Center said. “My roof caved in, I have water damage everywhere, a tree fell on my house, and I am now having to move in with my grandma until I am able to save enough to leave,” Mercedes Roth wrote on a GoFundMe page she organized after surveying the damage on Monday. “I am devastated, exhausted, and just lost,” she wrote. Ida was downgraded to a tropical depression on Monday as it moved over Mississippi. Credit: Mercedes Roth via Storyful
