Queensland tightens border control as Victoria enters lockdown

Queenslanders will see an increased police presence on the roads this morning around state borders to ensure all travellers are complying with COVID-19 restrictions. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday flagged border security would be strengthened as Victoria entered its fourth lockdown. Only returning Queensland residents will be allowed to enter from Victoria – unless they have an exemption – but will have to undergo 14 days mandatory hotel quarantine. All travellers entering the state will also be required to fill out a border declaration form. Meanwhile, the Sunshine State has put its hand up to host the first State of Origin match if it is unable to go ahead as planned in Melbourne on June 9. If Queensland wins the bid, the game could be held in Townsville at the brand new Country Bank Stadium.
