NT health system ‘coping’ despite large number of COVID cases in Howard Springs

The Northern Territory’s health system is "coping" despite the high number of COVID cases in Howard Springs but “we need to be very careful” considering the crisis in India, according to NT AMA President Dr Robert Parker. “There are already larger number in Howard Springs of active cases, but they’re contained within Howard Springs,” he said. “My understanding is only very few of them have needed to be transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital. “So currently even with that high rate the Territory health system is coping although obviously given the very alarming situation in India at the moment we’ve got to be very careful with incoming and potential for community spread. “I mean one of our big issues in the Territory is 30 per cent of our population are Indigenous and the potential for major consequences in Indigenous communities with community spread is very significant. “So we’ve got to be very careful we’ve that got a high standard of quarantine so there’s virtually no risk of community spear in the Territory."
