French President Emmanuel Macron announced a nationwide closure of school for at least three weeks, in a bid to fight rising COVID-19 cases. In a live address on March 31, President Macron said schools across the country would transition to remote learning from April 5. According to local news reports the number of COVID-19 cases in France doubled since February “with the number of patients in intensive care units surpassing 5,000 on Tuesday.” Macron also said that classes would remain open for the children of key workers.
