Adorable Sitatunga Calf Joins the Herd at Maryland Zoo

An adorable female sitatunga calf joined the herd at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore on February 4. Footage shared by the zoo on February 26 shows the calf, named June. “We are very happy to welcome June, born to Cricket earlier this month,” said Erin Grimm, the zoo’s mammal collection and conservation manager, in a press release. “This little one did not appear to nurse as quickly as we hoped, but with some encouragement she did finally get the hang of it,” Grimm said. “So, we are very pleased that she is thriving under the care of her mother, who was born here in 2013.” Sitatunga are a type of antelope native to swampy habitats in central Africa.
