Sydney NYE fireworks to go ahead as planned

Organisers of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks say the $6.5 million show is going ahead – despite calls for it to be cancelled. The City of Sydney has been under pressure to scrap the event as the state experiences one of the most devastating fire seasons on record, with calls for the funding to be allocated to the firefighting effort. But organisers have said much of the budget has already been spent and cancelling the event would unfair impact upon local businesses relying on the income the event provides.
