Nissan ex-head flees Japan to Lebanon amid financial misconduct allegations

Former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn has fled from Japan to Beirut as he faces financial misconduct allegations during his time leading the automaker. Ghosn - who is of Lebanese origin - has been on bail while awaiting trial, but is not allowed to travel overseas. Investigators arrested Ghosn in 2018 and charged him with under-reporting more than $80 million USD in planned future compensation, and with directing more than $14 million USD in Nissan funds to personal use. Police Detain Person at Moscow Memorial for Navalny

Police in Moscow were seen detaining at least one person at the “Wall of Grief,” a monument to victims of political persecution, where a vigil to Alexei Navalny was set up on Saturday, February 17. Video filmed by Russian media outlet SOTA shows police detaining one person near the monument and carrying them away. Navalny was reported dead by Russian Russian authorities on Friday, February 16. Authorities said the 47-year-old dissident fell ill and died in the prison colony where he was detained. According to Meduza, more than 150 people have been arrested at protests and gatherings in memory of Navalny across Russia. International media reported several journalists were arrested in Moscow and St Petersburg after Navalny’s death was announced.
