Firefighters unscathed after dramatic footage shows flames surrounding their truck

January 1, 2020. NSW Fire and Rescue Commissioner Paul Baxter speaking to media in Sydney about a team of firefighters who were overtaken by flames while battling blazes South of Nowra on December 31. Baxter says the crew hunkered down while flames passed over the truck and helmet camera footage captured the conditions which he is "running out of adjectives to describe". "They've got out relatively unscathed," he says. "The feeling that goes through this building and all of my colleagues here when we hear of a circumstance like that is completely sobering, the place goes very, very quiet. Sometimes it's only minutes before we find out about the safety of our crews but it feels like absolute hours," he says. (AAP VIDEO/Andrew Leeson/NSW Fire and Rescue)
