Up to 1,100 regional jobs and funding for essential services across New South Wales could be at risk after the Independent Planning Commission rejected plans for a coal mine near Mudgee. The commission refused to back the development of the Bylong Coal mine, due to environmental impact fears. There are now concerns the decision could jeapordise mining royalties used to pay for hospitals, roads and schools in the state. New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro is calling for an overhaul of the commission, arguing the decision risks the future of mining investment across the state. Image: News Corp Australia
