Second British warship joins tanker escort in Strait of Hormuz

A second British warship has arrived in the Strait of Hormuz to help protect vessels from the threat of an Iranian attack. Sky News has learned a small number of additional UK military personnel will also be dispatched this week to a base in Bahrain. The Royal Navy's HMS Duncan will support the safe passage of British-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz, where the British oil tanker Stena Impero was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard earlier this month. Iran targeted Britain after Royal Marines helped to seize an Iranian supertanker off the coast of Gibraltar on suspicion it was carrying oil bound for Syria in breach of EU sanctions. Image: Getty
