Berejiklian backs Opal owners’ right to sue

July 30, 2019. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian speaks to reporters in Sydney, saying the announcement of a building commissioner is "imminent". Asked if she is concerned about potentially opening up taxpayers to a lawsuit from Opal Tower residents, Ms Berejiklian says she "doesn't blame anybody" for wanting to take legal action. "This is an unfortunate set of circumstances we inherited, the system we have today, and we're aiming to fix it by the end of the year through legislation," the Premier says. "I am looking forward to the appointment of a building commissioner who will ensure... that everybody in the industry not only is aware of their responsibilities but delivers on those responsibilities."
