Coalition’s tax cut agenda will ‘make economic inequality much worse’

Although the Coalition won the election, Richard Di Natale says he has a mandate to hold the government to account on its $158 billion tax cut agenda. The Greens Leader has told Sky News he will not support the government’s three-stage tax cut package because it will only ‘make economic inequality much worse in Australia’. The Coalition will need support for its plan when parliament resumes in early July, but the Opposition is refusing to back the third stage, which would provide tax relief for high-income earning Australians. Senator Di Natale says ‘what we’ve got is a government that’s continuing with the same trickle-down economics that if you give a big tax cut to people who need it least, everyone’s going to be better off'. ‘It doesn’t work that way,' he says.
