Details of the investigation into the 1997 death of INXS frontman Michael Hutchence have been revealed in new podcast Police Tape. Former detective inspector Mark Smith reveals graphic details about the investigation, and explains how police determined the death was an act of deliberate suicide, and not accidental as claimed by Mr Hutchence’s then-partner Paula Yates. The podcast, produced by New Corp’s True Crime Australia and Nova Entertainment, is made up of a series of interviews by Merrick Watts with former police officers, who outline details of investigations into major crimes. Mr Watts joins Sky News to discuss his interview with Mr Smith over the death of the INXS singer, and the inspiration behind the podcast.
