NSW govt commits $25 million to assess Bradfield water diversion scheme for drought protection

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has announced the Berejiklian government will put $25 million towards a feasibility study into the 90-year-old Bradfield Scheme, a water diversion scheme to protect the state against drought. Speaking to Sky News, Mr Barilaro says the study will look at eventual costs, which he currently estimates to be $10-15 billion for the proposed Bradfield Scheme, and challenges other states to match their funding in order to make a more serious ‘guesstimate’ on cost. Mr Barilaro says it is time to ‘future proof’ Australia, with nation building projects that will ‘make a difference’.
