Disturbing footage shows brutal attack on police officers

Three men and a woman are due to face a Melbourne court charged with assaulting two police officers in St Kilda. The police officers were allegedly attacked when they responded to reports of an assault on Fitzroy Street in the early hours of Sunday. The vision shows police allegedly being thrown to the ground and stomped on, with one officer having his head repeatedly smashed against the ground. Both officers were taken to hospital after the incident, where one was treated for facial injuries and the other underwent emergency surgery to his shoulder. The attack happened following accusations of police brutality, but senior command is standing by the officers, saying they acted appropriately. The investigation is ongoing.
