The Opposition says it is willing to further negotiate with the government to ensure refugees get off the Nauru detention centre. New Zealand offered to take 150 refugees from the island, but Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he would only consider the offer if the refugees were prohibited from then crossing into Australia. Labor frontbencher Brendan O’Connor says his government is willing to negotiate with the government’s proposed prohibition because ‘people’s lives hang in the balance’.
