US threatens China with sanctions unless it maintains pressure on North Korea

US President Donald Trump is threatening to impose tariffs and sanctions on China unless the Asian powerhouse increases economic pressure on North Korea. The move is designed to keep the rogue state on track towards denuclearising the Korean peninsula. The White House says 93 per cent of the Hermit Kingdom’s trade goes through China. Beijing warns it will retaliate against any new tariffs but says there would be ‘no winners in a trade war’.
