Deadly Carr Fire Guts Homes and Cars in Redding, California

California’s deadly Carr Fire had destroyed 500 buildings – including homes – and damaged 75 by the evening of July 27 as it grew to more than 48,000 acres, officials said. By July 27, two people – a firefighter and a bulldozer operator – reportedly died fighting the fire. One of them was identified by the Redding firefighters’ union as fire inspector Jeremy Stoke. This video, which shows burned houses and vehicles on one side of a street in Redding in the wake of the Carr Fire, was filmed when emergency crews temporarily allowed residents to return, Twitter user @TheCoffeeJesus told Storyful. More than 20,000 residents of Redding fled their homes on July 26 and July 27 to escape the Carr Fire, which has killed two people and injured three firefighters. Evacuations were ordered in Shasta County, California, on the evening of July 26. Cal Fire ordered additional evacuations around 2:30am on July 27 for all of Shasta Lake City, Summit City, Shasta Dam Boulevard and the Shasta Dam Visitor Center.
