Banking royal commission to review CBA’s treatment of Bankwest customers

The royal banking commission will today hear how the Commonwealth Bank treated business customers after it bought Bankwest a decade ago. Several former Bankwest customers have made submissions to the inquiry, but only a few will give evidence during its public hearing into small business lending. The CBA has defended itself against accusations it bullied a Perth Property developer over loan negotiations around the time of the Global Financial Crisis. The royal commission previously rejected claims the CBA had an ulterior motive to systematically default business loans after its acquisition of Bankwest in 2008.
